| In
1947, California established the first
Sex Offender registry in the United
States. By 1997, all the states were
required by federal mandate to have Sex
Offender registries. The U.S. Congress
has passed three laws that require States
to keep track of sex offenders; the Wetterling
Registration Act (1998), the Lynchner Tracking
and Identification Act (1996) and Megans Law (1996). The
Supreme Court, on March 5, 2003, ruled
that information about potential
predators may be posted on the Internet. |
